With all the charitable tipping going on lately — $9,000 because of Mother’s Day here, $3,000 for exorbitant New York rent there — it’s nice to have someone bring everything crashing back to reality. For that, we can thank Victoria Bachmann, a Florida waitress who allegedly stole $1,074 in her first month on the job at Ozona Blue Grilling Company by writing in higher tip values on customers’ bills.

According to the police, she pulled the move on 134 checks, entering higher values into the computer behind the backs of patrons. She must have thought a sneaky couple of bucks would go unnoticed (the math works out to about an extra $8 per bill) — which came out to her making over $1,000. But now, naturally, she’s been fired and arrested.
