“It’s time to party like 20-year-olds!” declares Suppenkuche, which on Thursday, May 16, will be celebrating 20 years in business in Hayes Valley. Back in 1993, the convivial German restaurant was one of the pioneering businesses in the then sketchy ‘hood not long after the Central Freeway came down, and a full five years before Absinthe showed up. It’s remained the same as it ever was, with its boots of Spaten, bare wood tables, and big plates of wurst, and it’s generally packed every night. So, suffice it to say, you should swing by on the early side on Thursday, since the party starts at 5 p.m. and will be crowded. There will be music, a special menu, special beers, and regular service will be canceled at both the restaurant and the nearby Biergarten. Also, people will be dressed as gnomes, so, you’ve been warned. [Suppenkuche via Hayeswire]
