As noted over the weekend, the cookbook, broadcast, and journalism segment of the James Beard Awards took place Friday night in New York City — the chef and restaurant awards are tonight — and among the winners was Sacramento food blogger Hank Shaw and his handsome blog Hunter Angler Gardener Cook. Being an avid fisherman and hunter, he specializes in seafood and wild game recipes, and he previously has published a book, Hunt, Gather, Cook: Finding the Forgotten Feast. He’s also got another book on the way in the fall, Duck, Duck, Goose, which is all about waterfowl. Also of note from the awards, GQ writer Brett Martin won a prize for his December profile of Mission Chinese Food chef Danny Bowien, titled “Danny and the Electric Kung Pao Pastrami Test.” [Sac Bee, Earlier]
