San Francisco-based Philz Coffee, founded in 2003 by Phil Jaber, is going to be expanding elsewhere in California thanks to a new round of venture funding. Philz has been steadily expanding in the last couple of years, with a current total of thirteen locations and adding an outpost on the Facebook campus in 2012. They also struck a recent vendor partnership with Virgin America. And now, since all we seem to do on the West Coast is trade coffee brands (we learned last month that SoCal’s Tierra Mia was expanding to S.F., for instance), more cities should expect to find Philz in the mix. Philz shops are known for “Turkish-style” pour-overs, with an added sprig of fresh mint on request, and for their custom bean blends, with names like Tesora, Sooo Good, and Jacob’s Wonderbar, named for Phil’s son Jacob.
