Anyone who’s ever tried to open a restaurant in this city will likely take some pleasure from this story: Restaurateur Lorenzo Logoreci, owner of Russian Hill’s Allegro Romano, got into a little bit of an altercation on Friday with an environmental health inspector from the Department of Public Health who dropped in on the new restaurant Logoreci’s working on. As we noted a few weeks back, Logoreci took over the former Rue St. Jacques (1098 Jackson Street at Taylor) where he plans to open the casual Ala Romano. He’s doing some light remodeling, including repainting, for which he should not need a permit, however this inspector seemed to think he did. As the Scoop reports, the inspector got insistent, issued Logoreci a citation, and Logoreci got angry enough that he allegedly slapped the guy.
The day before, on May 9, the Department of Building Inspection received a complaint that Logoreci was doing construction above and beyond what was allowed without a permit, but that complaint was dismissed Friday morning with the department confirming that only minor repairs and repainting was occurring. So, you can see where some frustration might arise with the drop-in by the environmental health guy that afternoon. In any event, the remodel is moving forward, but Logoreci now needs to appear in court to face battery charges.
