We’ve long thought the prominent corner of Castro and Market Streets, with that former Bank of America building anchoring the intersection, needed a big nightclub of some kind. Well, it might get one, but in the form of a Chippendales-type strip club called the Randy Rooster, which also plans to be a bar and restaurant in what was formerly a Diesel store. The owners are in escrow on the building, as reported on SFist, and they may not know what they’re getting into when it comes to applying for a change of use and doing battle with the highly active local merchants’ and neighborhood associations. They’re beginning their outreach efforts now, and interestingly, they’ve scrubbed all references to male stripping from their website, though we’ve been assured that is in fact the crux of this venture. Supervisor Scott Wiener says he’s “very interested to know what folks in the community think about the proposal,” which has yet to go before Planning, but is likely to in the coming months. Commenters from the community are already voicing opinions for and against, with some of the critics decrying the influx of bachelorette parties (already a bit of an annoyance in the Castro) that such a venue will bring. Regardless, this will get interesting. [SFist]
