Today’s the day that Food & Wine editor Dana Cowin does her annual Twitter riddles teasing out this year’s Best New Chef picks. So far, we’re pretty sure Michael Voltaggio of L.A.’s ink. is in the mix for the coveted July issue (hint: “tattoo necessity”), which is of course odd giving how long he’s been in the business — but he fits the criteria given the length of time he’s owned his own restaurant. Mission Chinese Food’s Danny Bowien seems a pretty likely candidate too, but we’ll wait and see. Also today, the magazine announced the nominees for the People’s Best New Pastry Chef, and Manresa’s Stephanie Prida, and Lucques’ Christina Olufson are both among them. By tomorrow we should know all the Best New Chef honorees, following a photo shoot and party in New York today. [FWScout/Twitter] Update: The hint “Asian salvation in NYC” would definitely point to Bowien. Update 2: It looks like Justin Cogley from Carmel’s Aubergine is in there too.
