What to Eat and Drink at Steins Beer Garden, Arriving in Mountain View This Month

Across the country in the last couple of years, most especially in New York, L.A., and here, there’s been a renaissance of beer gardens. Suppenkuche’s well loved (but temporary) Biergarten is now in it second year of life in Hayes Valley, plus there’s the new SoMa StrEat Food Park, and several are popping up in Oakland as well, like Telegraph and Lost and Found. The trend has been even bigger down where the weather’s warmer, on the Peninsula and in Silicon Valley, and joining the fray this month is Steins Beer Garden, a huge, newly constructed beer hall and garden opening in Mountain View on March 28. Today we bring you an exclusive peek at the food menu from chef Colby Reade, and a few of the beers to be featured on tap.

The airplane-hangar-like beer hall, an 8,000-square-foot space with high, arched ceiling, is meant to evoke a big German beer hall, with seating for 250 and big communal tables made of reclaimed wood. Outside, there’s a 4,000-square-foot beer garden with metal pergolas, trees, trellises, and an enclosed fireplace. Additionally, there are two rentable private rooms, and a second beer garden for private parties as well.

Steins will feature 30 different beers on tap, with twenty fixed taps and ten rotating taps reserved for seasonal brews and newer beers. The beer menu, with a fairly high beer-geek quotient, will include:

Fruli Strawberry Beer - Brouwerij Huyghe
Hitachino Nest White Ale - Kiuichi
Avant Garde - Lost Abbey
Chocolate Porter - Hangar 24
Shakenbake - Knee Deep + Boulder Collaboration
Das Naturtrube - Schwaben Brau
Barock Dunkel - Weltenburger Kloster
Belgium Tramp - Band of Gypsies Collaboration Project
Double Jack - Firestone
Raison d’etre - Dogfish Head
Rampant - New Belgium
Arrogant Bastard - Stone
Dog Ate My Homework - Brouwerij West
Odin’s Tipple - Haandbryggeriet

In addition to beer, Steins will have a cocktail program and a selection of wines, as well, to satisfy beer-averse significant others.

Below, the full food menu, which features plenty of beer-friendly snacks, and the Steins Burger, which is a house-ground blend of short-rib, brisket, and sirloin.
