A new Jamaican restaurant from the guys behind the weekly Kingston 11 pop-up at Guerilla Cafe is on its way to Oakland’s booming Uptown. The trio behind the project are Adrian Henderson, chef Nigel Jones, and Andre King, and they’re aiming for a May opening in the former Off the Hook (2270 Telegraph Avenue at 23rd). They’re keeping the name of the pop-up, and the concept is meant to mix the beaches and reggae culture of Jamaica with the urban environment of Oakland, which the team says is similar to that of Kingston, Jamaica. It will be a big space, with 90 seats, and will feature a rum bar and dishes like their jerk chicken, oxtail stew, ackee and saltfish, and house-smoked escoveitched salmon, all in the range of $12 to $17.
