A serious shooting occurred late Saturday night, both inside and outside SoMa nightclub 330 Ritch. Three people were shot, one of them gravely, in two separate but related incidents that started in the club and led down the street to Third and Brannan. The incident follows on some serious previous incidents in which the Entertainment Commission has had to intervene, including the 2012 murder outside Double Dutch, and the 2010 murder that occurred outside Suede near the Wharf, effectively shutting down the club. The participants in Saturday’s incident are said to be East Bay residents in their twenties. [Examiner via SFist]
Update: The owners of 330 Ritch met with Entertainment Commissioner Jocelyn Kane on Monday and promptly surrendered their entertainment license. Kane says the owners are done, meaning that the space will cease to be 330 Ritch for good. Mayor Ed Lee told reporters that this was an example of nightclubs not showing that they can handle, say, serving liquor until 4 a.m. (something which he’s already been a bit reluctant to support). We’ll update you if we hear of any future plans the owners may have for the bar, or if this will affect Little Skillet. [ABC 7]
