Truck Stop Café, the semi-monthly pop-up from Humphry Slocombe's Jake Godby which happens at Truck (15th and Folsom), is launching a new series of "blue plate specials" based on the last meals of famous death row inmates. We begin with Perry Smith and Richard Hickock, the men put to death for the murder of the Kansas family that's described in Truman Capote's In Cold Blood. Their final meal will be recreated in the form of this Wednesday's special: shimp salad, French fries, and bacon on garlic bread with avocado, followed by strawberry fool. (The last meal Smith requested was actually shrimp, French fries, garlic bread, and strawberries with whipped cream.) Eat it yourself on Wednesday, October 10, from 6 to 10 p.m. And for more examples of last meals, you can check out the Last Meals Project.
