The Chron Eulogizes Soul Food Farm

A favorite chicken source says farewell.

Back in July we learned that Vacaville’s Soul Food Farm was shutting down in the face of rising costs and shrinking profits. The beloved producer of chickens and eggs, whose products were name-checked on menus at Chez Panisse, Frances, and many other restaurants, got a eulogy in Sunday’s Chronicle, telling the history of the farm and the reasons for its unfortunate demise. On the bright side, married farmers Alexis Koefoed, 47, and Eric Koefoed, 60, are looking forward to an early retirement and an end to eighteen-hour workdays. “I cried for a couple of days, and then I got up and I’ve actually been thinking, ‘Wow, Eric and I are going to get some rest,’” Alexis says.
