Divino (1401 University Avenue), the restaurant from first-time owners Marco Polo Garbarino and Joan Gallagher that opened in the former Fellini space in February, closed in August for "reinvention," and now new owners have stepped in. Pizza MODA is due to open in the space in November, with one of the original Fellini owners on board, and as Berkeleyside reports, they're on the hunt for a chef, and they're hoping to bring a "Dopo, Pizzaiolo, Gioia, Boot & Shoe and the café at Chez Panisse" vibe to University Avenue. More on that as we learn it, and in the meantime Garbarino formally announced Divino's demise today, saying, "Unfortunately the challenges of opening a restaurant in this economic environment were too overwhelming for Joan and I. Although an amazing location, the rent and other costs really impacted our success." [Berkeleyside, Earlier]
