Mill Valley’s Café del Soul took the unusual step this week of calling the health department on itself due to a huge infestation of German cockroaches that were found in the walls of their building, adjoining another business. As CBS reports, the restaurant remains open, and they’ve posted a sign saying “[We’re going to] do everything we can to keep our café and the surrounding areas as clean as possible.” That’s nice. Health inspectors have not yet come to assess the situation, and the restaurant is working with a contractor to eradicate the “horrible” cockroach nest hidden in the building’s walls. Unfortunately, as we’re learning today, “The German cockroach is very successful at establishing an ecological niche in buildings, and is very hardy and resilient against attempts at pest control.” [CBS via Scoop]
