AQ owner Matt Semmelhack reveals the news to Grub Street today that he’s got two new restaurant projects in the works, due within the next six to nine months. As you likely know, AQ opened just a year ago on Mission Street between Sixth and Seventh and quickly has become a destination spot in an otherwise non-gourmande neighborhood. They’ve racked up honors, being shortlisted for the James Beard Award for Best New Restaurant, and landing on Esquire’s list of Best New Restaurants in the country. Now, though further details can’t be revealed until leases are signed, Semmelhack hints at big expansion plans at a pair of as-yet-undisclosed locations.
We should have more info for you in a few weeks as the deals are firmed up, including concepts, sizes, and addresses, but suffice it to say, AQ will have a mini-empire going by mid-2013.
