The recently launched Food Craft Institute in Oakland, which is the brainchild of some Slow Food folks, is hosting a job fair this Thursday at their Jack London Square headquarters for people seeking work at farms, farmers’ markets, and food production. They will also be hiring for their meat-focused retail arm, Belcampo Meat Company, which will be opening an old-timey butcher shop and restaurant in Larkspur in late October, featuring sustainably farmed meat and poultry — including less common stuff like squab and goat — from their own farms in the Shasta Valley, Belize, and Uruguay. There will also be a full-service deli with a line of homemade charcuterie, and a restaurant featuring, among other things, the Belcampo Burger, which has already caught some attention via pop-ups at Blue Bottle in Oakland.

Belcampo is the latest venture from Eat Real Fest founder Anya Fernald, who also helped run Slow Food Nation a few years back. She’s partnered with Todd Robinson and is focused on creating a model for an agribusiness “that provides a clear path from farm to table (and offers a chance for further education in sustainable farming).” In addition to sourcing much of the meat from their own local farm, they’ve established farms in Belize and Uruguay in order to produce a limited line of products that can only be produced in tropical climates, like cacao, rum, and coffee. They’ve also already opened a small hotel and agritourism business at the Belize property.

Look for Belcampo’s market and restaurant to open at the Marin County Mart later next month.

The Good Food Jobs Fair happens Thursday, September 13 in two sessions from 8 a.m. to noon, and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Food Craft Institute, 65 Webster Street, Oakland.

And in related news, Eat Real kicks off this year with a Meatopia event on September 21, for which tickets are now on sale,
