San Francisco mag critic Josh Sens did a big “where to eat now” piece for the Food Issue, and it’s a roundup of all his favorite casual spots around town, many of them brand new. He calls out Del Popolo’s pure and perfect Neapolitan pies, but says he’s a “pizza pragmatist” and almost prefers Gioia Pizzeria’s gas-fired pizzas because they’re crunchier in the middle and easier to reheat. Among the many other places he name-checks, he notes some good pie at Pig & Pie, which is open until 1 a.m. on the weekends; he praises the “lovely madhouse” of Namu Gaji and the “lovely, soothing setting” of the patio at Salumeria/Central Kitchen. Also, he says that Izakaya Yuzuki is his “top spot in the city in this genre” (Ippuku in Berkeley being his top overall). And he says of the new FuseBox in West Oakland, “I think of [it] as distant kin to David Chang’s Momofuku empire.” [SF Mag]
