Once upon a time there was Zima, the clear beverage of choice for frail women who disliked the taste of alcohol and feel tipsy after a half glass of wine and also a funny joke among frat boys who have since turned to Smirnoff Ice for their pranks. Now, ladies and gentleman, we have Air, which is in fact a liquid, and an acronym that stands for Alcohol-Inspired Refresher. We don't know about you, but we prefer our booze to be more alcohol than alcohol-inspired.
It's basically just sparkling water, with some alcohol added, and clocks in at 95 calories. It comes in berry and citrus flavors, but also just "club" flavor, i.e. club soda.
Urban Daddy SF just did a "skeptical investigation" on the club flavor, saying it tastes pretty much like Perrier, and determining that at four-percent alcohol by volume (one percent less than Budweiser) it's best when added to a vodka tonic.
The company is currently doing a marketing blitz on the West Coast, and we suppose there is some sort of market for a classier type of malt beverage in a well designed can that doesn't taste like anything? We don't really get it at least Four Loko keeps you awake but at least it beats drinking hand santizer.
