Suriya Thai Appears Closed

Suriya Thai (1532 Howard Street), whose owner Suriya Srithong was sentenced to six months in federal prison for tax fraud in February, appears to be closed for good. A tipster sends Eater the news, noting that tables are piled in boxes and they didn’t open today as they usually would. It seems that Srithong chose not to report any income from his restaurant in 2005 and 2006, and the IRS finally caught up with him. Locals will recall that the popular Mission location of Suriya Thai got evicted in 2009, and ended up relocating to the current SoMa spot. We thought the restaurant would remain open through Srithong’s incarceration, and his subsequent six months of house arrest, but maybe that will not be the case after all. [Eater]
