Birdsall Unimpressed With Cantina Bell Menu at Taco Bell

Former SF Weekly and East Bay Express scribe John Birdsall, who’s lately been in the employ of CHOW, did us all a favor this week and checked out the new Cantina Bell menu at Taco Bell. It’s kind of like their low-rent answer to Chipotle using fresh ingredients, and they’re doing burrito bowls with fresh lettuce, and burritos with cilantro rice and fresh avocado — all allegedly created by Miami chef Lorena Garcia, who’s going to be on the upcoming season of Top Chef Masters. Birdsall says it’s all “really rather shitty,” with the “fresh” corn still tasting like freezer corn and the citrus-herb marinated chicken “seemed so loaded up with saline injections it practically dissolved under plastic-fork pressure.” Sounds about right.
