A Glen Park Barista Is Having None of This Tip-Jar Thievery

Another tip-jar bandit, different from the Lower Haight Tip-Jar Bandit, recently struck Café Bello in Glen Park, and was caught on camera. As SFist reports, a badass barista by the name Madison Kaviyakoen leaped right over the counter and ran out after the thief, almost apprehending him in the middle of Diamond Street before he tried taking a few swings at her and ran off. See it all below.

Gagliardi Calls 1058 Hoagie ‘Drool-Worthy’; Matthews Digs Lot 7

1058 Hoagie's classic No. 1.Photo: Rose Garrett

At her new gig at 7x7, Marcia Gagliardi pays a visit to Adam Mesnick's new pop-up spinoff of Deli Board, 1058 Hoagie — which has actually suspended the pop-ups until the upcoming opening of their brick-and-mortar spot at 180 7th Street. She calls the sandwiches, which come on twelve-inch sesame hoagie buns that Mesnick has custom-made for him, "drool-worthy" and "ideal for Giants night games." [7x7]

E&O Trading Company Reborn Today as E&O Asian Kitchen

A rendering of the revised E&O.

Fifteen-year-old E&O Trading Company closed in June for an overhaul, and today it reopens as E&O Asian Kitchen (314 Sutter Street), complete with a new bar program from Carlos Yturria (formerly at Absinthe) and a revised menu from consulting chef Arnold Eric Wong. Wong's added a few new items to the menu, as the Chron reports, like an Asian spin on "gnocchi" using rice sticks, beef, and cabbage, as well as stuff like tea deviled eggs and five-spice chicken wings. See all the menus here. The new design focuses more on the downstairs bar and lounge, and there's a new menu of bar bites as well. [Chron]

Our Top Five Favorite Burgers in San Francisco (Right Now)

The burger at Maven is our #3.

Whittling down the many candidates for our best burger slideshow yesterday was no easy feat, and picking favorites among those wasn't so simple either. Burgers are delicious! That is a fact. It is really hard to rank 50 of them in any order without it feeling arbitrary, because many of them are pretty much on par with each other, or so different as to be like different species of burger altogether. But, everyone loves a list, and we hinted in our descriptions that we had come up with a top five — which is, of course, subject to change next year, or whenever we can stomach eating burgers again and taste one that blows our mind.

Yigit Pura’s Tout Sweet, Rendered

Speaking of Macy's, check out some renderings of Yigit Pura's upcoming patisserie, Tout Sweet, opening August 25 on the third floor of Macy's. He said a while back that he was inspired by his favorite pastry shop in Paris, Ladurée, but the look also calls to mind the chic, minimalist shop he visited alongside 7x7 last spring, La Patisserie des RĂªves. Scenes From Opening Day at San Francisco’s First Pinkberry

It's here, fro-yo fiends! The first Pinkberry in San Francisco proper opened this morning, just two hours ago, on the O'Farrell Street side of Macy's Union Square. There was not yet a line at the uber-popular, extra-tangy frozen yogurt shop with fresh and abundant toppings, but there will be! People really love this stuff, to the point of addiction even. (Also: free samples!) Anyway, take a look inside the new shop — which is Pinkberry's 200th in the country — where your dreams of having a cold cup full of original-flavor topped with Fruit Loops, kiwi, and chocolate-covered pretzels can now come true.

Maybe Yelp Isn’t So Powerful After All?

Ever since the dawn of Yelp, restaurants and small businesses have been running scared and kowtowing to Yelp Elite members for fear they'll give them a one-star review. But has all this worry that a few bad Yelp reviews are as influential as a bad review by a major newspaper critic been for naught? Forbes reports today on a new study by a retail research firm that finds that, among other things, online reviews only account for about 14 percent of diners' motivation to try out a restaurant. And fine-dining restaurants hardly suffer any impact from bad Yelp reviews and the like, the study found. What's the biggest draw for people when it comes to online information about new restaurants? Old-fashioned deals and special offers, followed closely by news about menu items. Take that, angry Yelpers. [Forbes]

Behold the 4505 Meats Food Pyramid

Follow at your own peril.

No, you should not blow this up and hang it on the wall of your children's room. It's a joke, people, and a clever piece of marketing for Ryan Farr's meat and sausage company, 4505 Meats. Also, a perfect birthday gift for the bacon whore in your life. The posters will be available online starting next week, and you can pick one up Saturday at the 4505 stand in back of the Ferry Building during farmers' market hours, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sadly, though, the one thing that's not mentioned on the pyramid is their most excellent burger. See a bigger version below.

Regarding the ‘Chef Marriage’ of the Sons & Daughters Co-Chefs

Matt McNamara and Teague Moriarty have been joined at the hip in the kitchen at Sons & Daughters since the restaurant opened in 2010. Now they open up to Food & Wine about their differences and occasional disagreements in the kitchen, with Moriarty being the more vegetable-driven guy and McNamara more focused on the proteins. Also, there's been an argument about their mignardise. [Food & Wine]
