The Ambassador (673 Geary Street), the Tenderloin bar known for the old-timey rotary phones on its booth tables that only allowed the tables to call each other, will be closing its doors in a few months. Owners Demetrius Chapin-Rienzo, Nate Valentine, Todd Palmerton, and Larry Vavra have all outgrown the bar scene themselves, and though they're still going strong with restaurants Aventine, Mamacita, Umami, and the upcoming as-yet-unnamed spinoff of Mamacita in the old Eos space (Valentine also co-owns Tipsy Pig), they're selling The Ambassador and they recently sold their stake in Double Dutch as well. "Weve all moved on to different stages of our lives," Chapin-Rienzo tells the Scoop. New owners Adam Snyder and Justin Roja will ultimately reopen the place with a new concept, as yet to be announced. [Scoop]
