In case you missed the news, the foie gras ban isn’t really going to have much effect on your food world. The SFPD and LAPD have said they’re basically not going to enforce it, and if chefs are importing the stuff from out of state they’re totally going to turn a blind eye. So everyone really needs to cool it with the foie gras panic. That said, if you’re the indulgent type and still haven’t had your fill and still want to pretend like this prohibition is a big dramatic deal, OR if you’re interested in previewing what the food and drink is going to be like at the forthcoming Trick Dog in the Mission, then we’ve got just the event for you.
Chef Chester Watson, who’s doing the food at the Bon Vivants’ much awaited bar project (adjacent to Central Kitchen and Salumeria at 20th and Florida), is cooking what’s being dubbed California’s Official Last Legal Foie Gras Dinner. It’s being called that because it starts at 10 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, technically just two hours before the ban takes effect.
The menu is below, and the price is $80 per person, inclusive of French spirit pairings by the Bon Vivants, Scott Baird and Josh Harris. Get tickets here, and note that the exact location of this “secret” event will be delivered to you the day of.
Trick Dog, by the way, is due to open in the fall. We’re still awaiting a more exact ETA.
