Mo-Chica’s new home on Downtown’s 7th Street, which we peeked into way back in its gestation phase, forecasts doom for the first Mo-Chica. Ricardo Zarate’s original Peruvian powerhouse, which opened in South L.A.’s Mercado la Paloma in 2009, will cease operations tomorrow night at 8:00 P.M. to become a testing ground for new concepts, while Mo’s fancy new digs will debut next Wednesday, March 30, at 11:00 A.M. What’s new to be found?

In addition to a new space, which replaces the DIY charm of the Paloma pioneer with an open kitchen and fancy Peruvian cocktails from Picca’s Deysi Alvarez and Harvard & Stone’s Brian Summers, will also feature a few new dishes mixed with some of the restaurants classics, with a full menu due for Mo-Chica’s website next week. Expect dishes like a spicy tuna served with grilled bread and yuzu mayo, roasted paiche with ajiaco soup and amarillo escabeche, and traditional Peruvian sangrecita (a chicken blood pudding) served with huancaina, chimichurri, and grilled bread. Those mourning the original Mo-Chica are invited to a champagne toast tomorrow night at closing to say goodbye. Everyone else can wait for the full new menu to hit Mo-Chica’s website next week.
