In some ways this Sun-Times piece reads like it’s from the early 70s— how exotic, a woman brewing beer! Watch her move large boxes without fainting! Yet it’s true that beer culture, like most other forms of geek culture, is kind of a guy thing, particularly a single guys hanging out thing, and any woman moving into is going to be a bit of a novelty (and probably pretty popular). Enough that head brewer Chris Boggess unabashedly refers to her as “a black unicorn,” that is, as rare as one— which is why when she graduated to brewing her, uh, maiden batch of beer, it was called Das Kleine Schwarz Einhorn, the Little Black Unicorn.
