As of last week, rumors were confirmed about Charlie Hallowell’s next project, a non-pizza place across the street from his newly expanded Boot & Shoe Service on Grand Avenue in Oakland. Today the Scoop spoke to Hallowell and got a few more details about what will be a butcher shop cum bar, with a meat-focused menu, and the working title is Penrose & Sons Fine Meats and Spirits (3307 Grand Avenue), named for his grandfather. Look for a late-2012 opening, after Hallowell transforms the former nail salon and installs a large grill and plancha, with a menu influenced by some recent travels in Latin America and Japan.
