Here’s some crucial information for your summer vacation: Island Queen, the ferry of note from Falmouth to Martha’s Vineyard, has reduced its passenger load from 600 to 520. Why? People are getting chubbier, and the ferries can’t handle the weight.

“It’s true,” a Queen employee chuckles to Grub Street. But it’s not just us. The measure was put in place for all ferries nationwide back in December because the Assumed Average Weight Per Person was increased from 160 pounds to 185 pounds per the U.S. Coast Guard.
