Soon, Maybe Everyone In California Can Pickle That

A new “cottage food” bill is wending its way through the California legislature, introduced by L.A. Assemblyman Mike Gatto, which would lessen some of the health-department-related obstacles to selling ones own jams and pickles and such. Things like jerky and cheeses would still be heavily restricted, but lower-risk stuff, sold from one’s kitchen, would be cool after a little safety training. It would also make simpler events like S.F.’s Underground Market, which was unceremoniously shut down last year after state officials pressured San Francisco to stop being so lenient about unregulated pickles. So, pickle on, folks! You might have a cottage industry on your hands. [SFoodie]
