Jake's on Market (2223 Market Street), the new, diner-inspired Castro restaurant replacing neighborhood mainstay 2223, is by all accounts very close to opening. When will it open? We've attempted but failed to get a firm date from the team, and for lack of updates on their Facebook page besides "early February," we don't have much to go on. But the menu from chef Erik Hopfinger went up in the windows over the weekend, and we suspect they'll be open within a week or so, so stay tuned. See the menu below.
As you can see, there's a selection of crowd-pleasing smaller plates, like clams casino, ham-and-cheese croquettes, and "East Coast vs. West Coast" crab cakes featuring Maryland blue crab paired with Old Bay aioli vs. local Dungeness with Meyer lemon aioli.
Then you've got your pizzas, your $13 grass-fed Angus burger, and a selection of simple, comfort-foody entrées like a chicken pot pie and meatloaf, in the $13 to $20 range. Plus, there's a "Jake's Finer Side" section with some slightly fancier large plates, like a grass-fed New York steak with truffle butter ($28.75); Moroccan-spiced local rack of lamb with mint chimichurri ($29.75); and a seafood pasta with local shellfish and Dungeness crab ($26.75).
We'll let you know as soon as they go public with the opening date.
