Based on numbers from their readers’ poll, Travel + Leisure rates San Francisco as one of the worst cities for both cleanliness and barbecue. Now, given all the new Southern-inspired and BBQ-focused places that have opened in the last year (Cedar Hill, Tupelo, Southpaw, Sneaky’s, just to name a few), and the few more coming up (Hops & Hominy opening Monday, Dancing Pig), we’d suggest these tourists take a fresh look. And we may never be a top-ten barbecue city, but given all the great ribs and brisket we tried for this feature last year, we’d say we deserve to at least be higher on that list than Phoenix, for god’s sake.
