The Summit Is Closing, New Coffee Vendor to Replace It

Popular Mission wi-fi hangout The Summit (780 Valencia), which got a bunch of press in the last year for being a model “third space” that was not quite a café and more than just an office, is closing at the end of January. They made the announcement on their website, and Mission Local then got the details from the owner of the space, I/O Ventures, who says the Summit wasn’t able to pay market rent and therefore they’re now seeking a coffee vendor who can.

It’s kind of too bad, since they only opened a little over a year ago and only in the last six months or so got their liquor license. Eddie Lau has had to cancel his upcoming Dux pop-up dinners. (He’s apparently got a whole heritage pig on his hands and you might want to email him if you want to purchase some large cuts o’ pork.) But The Summit team insists that they are on the hunt for a new location — or, rather, “new opportunities and partnerships that align with our values” — and there will be a Summit 2.0 in the future. You can keep track of them via Twitter.

The Summit as we know it will close January 28.
