Regulars at Oakland’s monthly Art Murmur events may be mourning the loss of Mama Buzz, the café at 2316 Telegraph which had been one of its key stops, not to mention a performance venue for burgeoning local acts like tUnE-yArDs and the Big Kids. Mama Buzz closed in mid-December, and it’s being taken over by the landlord’s son, John Mardikian, as Oakland North reports. As of the February 3 Art Murmur, Mardikian hopes to be reopen the space as Telegraph, with a fresh look, and serving homemade sausages, pastries, beer, and coffee. It will continue on as an art gallery, too, but not so much as a music venue, unless it’s just a quiet young lady on a guitar. “No more metal shows and drumming at one in the morning,” Mardikian promises. Ah well. [Oakland North]
