Mayor Ed Lee was there to cut the ribbon, and Original Joe's came alive again today in a location just couple of miles north of where they began life on Taylor Street. The new location, which was formerly Joe DiMaggio's at the corner of Stockton and Union, feels timeworn enough with its dark wood and (albeit freshly upholstered) red and green booths, and the Duggan family welcomed in a host of old friends, fans, and hungry cops today for opening day.
As you can see, the menu has barely changed since the restaurant's Tenderloin days (or since the mid-1950s, we'd wager), and the place should fit in well with some of the other longtime stalwarts of the neighborhood.
Also still intact is the gold mermaid wall sculpture from the old location, the old signage, and a number of other artifacts, but we'd say the feel of the new place is a little more classic and less kitschy than the old location. See for yourself.
