The gorgeous art deco building at the corner of 19th and Telegraph in Oakland has got a new tenant: Paul Canales, formerly the chef at Oliveto. Canales, as you may recall, left his post at Oliveto over a year ago with promises of a new project in the works. As the Scoop is reporting, Canales’s new, as-yet-unnamed restaurant will join Flora and Xolo in the building, but his space will be the largest by far, at 4,000 square feet. He plans on having about 80 seats, and incorporating both music and art into the dining experience. The timing on this one is still TBA. [Scoop] Update: It won’t be Italian! In the print column, the Chron quotes Canales saying, “”I mined the Italian thing, and I’m ready to pull the Miles Davis thing and change it up.” [Chron]
