Longtime Tenderloin mainstay Original Joe's, which was gutted by a 2007 fire, is close to a rebirth in their new North Beach location at 601 Union Street — the corner spot at Stockton formerly occupied by Joe DiMaggio's. As the Chron reports today, the Duggan family has brought over much of the original, kitschy charm of the old-school Italian joint, including the red booths and Art Deco mermaids, and they'll even have their old phone number. They're hoping for a late-January opening if all goes well, and you should note that, despite their four-year hiatus, the restaurant celebrates their 75th anniversary in 2012, just like the Golden Gate Bridge.
