Grubstake Diner Gets Its Own Rap Song

Grubstake Diner Gets Its Own Rap Song

Well, isn't this special. Beloved Polk Gulch late-night eatery the Grubstake is the title and setting for a new rap song and video from white-guy rap artists Hail Mary Mallon (a.k.a. Aesop Rock, Rob Sonic, and DJ Big Wiz). The Feast is responsible for this find, which features lines like, "Smacked him in the glasses 'til the Polk Street bus came."

We'll just take a second to point out that this isn't the first time the Grubstake has come up in song. It's also mentioned in one verse of "The Golden Age of Hustlers," a song by Bambi Lake and recently recorded by Justin Vivian Bond about, well, hustlers on Polk Street.

Hail Mary Mallon's new album, Are You Gonna Eat That?, is available on iTunes.
