Late-breaking news this afternoon from the Elizabeth Falkner camp: It sounds like, at least for now, the celebrity pastry chef is throwing in the towel on the S.F. restaurant scene and closing both Citizen Cake as well as Orson. Orson ceased regular operations in October and has been operating solely as an event space, and via the restaurant's website we'd gathered there were plans for a new concept in 2012. Now the Scoop is reporting that Falkner will close Citizen Cake after December as well. This comes after a year that saw her reopen the bakery-café in Pac Heights, go through several chef shuffles, and re-concept her flagship as more of a family-friendly ice cream parlor. But apparently things didn't gel as she'd hoped. Falkner promises she'll be "start[ing] over, like everyone else," and she adds, "I just want to thank people for being just such loyal customers and fans, because it means a lot to me." [Scoop]
