An Update on Dixie, Which Might Make It Open Before New Year’s

Despite the name, this won't be a po-boys and biscuits kind of place.

We hadn’t heard much from the Joseph Humphrey camp in recent months, regarding his takeover of the former Pres a Vi space (1 Letterman Drive) in the Presidio to open the slightly southern-flavored Dixie. Today Eater catches up with the former Murray Circle chef, who says “there’s still the possibility that we could get open by the end of the year, but it’s hard to say.” (Given they have to deal with the feds, being on federal land, we’re going to say January is more likely.) But there are a few more details about the menu, which will be à la carte focused, with dishes mostly under $20. As we learned earlier, despite hints of Humphrey’s southern heritage here and there, the food will be his “personal style,” which is a mash-up of many cuisines with a more sophisticated bent. But among the other nods to the south will be a shot-and-a-beer special (Jack Daniels and Guinness, in honor of Humphrey’s brother), and a big porch outside with “lazy-making” rocking chairs.
