Closings

After Five Years, Spork in the Mission to Close

File this under Tuesday afternoon closures: chef and owner Bruce Binn has decided to shut down his Valencia Street favorite, Spork. The restaurant, which was once an old KFC, was named for the spoon-fork utensil made popular by the fried chicken fast food chain. The lease for the building was, sadly, up and the space is set to be turned into a series of condos, so there was nothing really that Binn and co-owner Neil Jorgensen could do to keep Spork alive.

Although he will focus on his other projects like Thermidor, a bummed Binn told the Tablehopper he wants “to give everyone the opportunity to stop by for a high-rise or chance to enjoy a last meal.” If you’re a fan of the joint, you have until December 23 to get in there and say your adios.
