Step Inside Monarch, the Newest Club to Try to Spiff Up Sixth Street

By

You've all heard that Sixth Street is attracting all kinds of new businesses, right? With Dottie's moving in, and Pearl's already a shining beacon of burgers on the corner of Market, things are looking up for the storefronts, if not for the folks who rule the sidewalks. But given the dearth of well-to-do NIMBYs, the street has long been a bit of a nightlife hub, and the latest upscale lounge and nightclub to make a go of it at the corner of Sixth and Mission is Monarch. As we reported earlier, Monarch is the brainchild of Tadd Cortell (founding partner at CAV wine bar), Manny Alfarez (formerly of Triple Crown), Micah Byrnes (brand ambassador for Fernet Branca), and Chris Smith (CEO of Om Records), and they brought on designers imroby (Robert Polacek) and One Hat One Hand to do the "Victorian meets steampunk" design for the space.

The downstairs dance floor features some seriously hot, gold speakers by Void Acoustics, which give off some beautiful sound too — watch here for upcoming DJs and events. There's a simple cocktail list featuring a handful of classics (a Manhattan, a martini, etc.), and the upstairs bar is just about complete — still to come is a huge suspended cameo in that big circular frame you'll see in our slideshow.

Monarch will be open Wednesday through Saturday this week, and starting in mid-December they'll be open Tuesday through Sunday.
