If only someone still made chocolate records!Photo: J. Barmann/Grub Street
What should we find while wandering SFO's Terminal 2 this past weekend but an exhibit all about the history of the record called "Revolutions Per Minute." Among the fun and snazzy vintage record players and jacket cover-art collection was this petite phonograph, dating to 1902, which was a marketing gimmick created by the Stollwerck Chocolate Company in Germany. It's a device made for playing small records made of chocolate, meant to delight children who undoubtedly could only stand to listen to the songs once or twice before devouring the delicious discs. Sadly, there was no century-old chocolate record in the display. [Grub Street]
