SC Asian Taking Over Wolfgang Puck Express Spot at Macy’s [Updated]

'Stir Crazy' must not have tested well in the S.F. market.

SC Asian, a new fast-casual concept from the Chicago-based Flat Out Restaurant Group and a spinoff of their Stir Crazy chain, is taking over the space in Macy’s basement formerly occupied by Wolfgang Puck Express. The company’s website says that SC Asian marks a “new approach” to “fast-casual full service dining, featuring dynamic dishes from all across Asia.” Stir Crazy, whose menu we imagine is kind of similar, features pan-Asian favorites like kung pao chicken and pad thai as well as under-600-calorie dishes like seared miso sea scallops with spinach. Will a Midwestern company’s take on Asian food go over well three blocks from the most famous Chinatown in the country? We suppose it is Macy’s basement. In any event, there will be a full bar, and they’re aiming for a November opening. [Grub Street] Update: We get word from Flat Out’s PR team that SC Asian’s menu will feature things like Crazy Baos, a traditional Chinese house steamed bun; banh mi sandwiches; Asian flatbreads (?); and something called Guilt-Free Miracle Noodles.
