Local TV personality, cookbook author, culinary tour guide, and the chef-host of Joanne Weir’s Cooking Class, Joanne Weir, is taking her knowledge of food and wine one step further by launching her own wine label. Weir informs Grub Street that Joanne Weir Wines is still in its preliminary stages, and she’s working with a consultant winemaker to locate vineyards that they’ll be sourcing grapes from. But she’s excited to be getting things off the ground. “I have always been as interested in wine as I am food, especially with my classes,” she tells us. “In most of my books, I’ve included wine suggestions and I love learning about wines and how they connect with the cuisines of the world. That’s why I teach in places like the Barossa, McLaren vale, La Rioja (leaving in 2 weeks), the Veneto, Tuscany, Provence and the Piedmont.”

She says she’s optimistic about what she and the winemaker have been working on so far, and the first wines they’ll make will be sourced from here in California.

Once they’re in the bottle, the wines will initially only be available to subscribers of her newsletter, via her website.

As you may know, Weir is the James Beard Award-winning cookbook author of From Tapas to Meze, Weir Cooking, Recipes from the Wine Country, and TEQUILA: A Guide to Types, Flights, Cocktails and Bites, among others. She also spent five years in the kitchen at Chez Panisse, and she currently takes guests along on culinary journeys and teaches hands-on classes in places like Provence and Tuscany.
