Fast on the heels of Taqueria Vallarta's pigeon-related health department closure (the owner tells Grub Street he hopes to reopen on Monday, pending a re-inspection), Eater brings word that La Oaxaquena appears to have given up the ghost completely while the owners focus on a catering business. (Though the core of their business may not have been those grasshopper tacos which they had to stop selling, the ban couldn't have helped).
ALSO, uber-popular taqueria-and-truck operation El Tonayense has both disappeared from the truck lineup at 22nd and Harrison and closed up shop on 24th Street. The reason? Some landlord troubles at the 24th Street spot, and owner Benjamin Santana says he's on the hunt for bigger and better digs.
