Kim Alter to Helm Daniel Patterson’s Jack London Square Project

Daniel Patterson’s long-delayed Jack London Square project (the unnamed restaurant formerly known as Bracina) has a new chef attached, and it’s none other than Kim Alter. As the industry and insider baseball fiends among you probably know, Alter’s been working with Charlie Parker at Plum and has otherwise been a free agent since leaving her post at Plate Shop this spring, and she’s got a resume that includes work at Aqua, Manresa, and Ubuntu. As Diablo reports, Alter has teamed up with Patterson to create “an accessible take on Northern Californian cuisine,” and they’re now aiming for a mid-November opening.

Additionally, Alter is going to bring to the Oakland project her own seasonal and sophisticated approach to vegetables, and we can only hope she revives that “whole chicken” dish from Plate Shop too. Until closer to opening, look for Alter to remain behind the stove at Plum alongside Parker.

And Patterson earlier hinted that a burgeoning whole-animal program, after this third restaurant in his empire opens, may lead to a fast-casual project down the line, in order to make use of all the meat scraps — as in a burger-and-sausage joint.

Look for more news about the name and developing concept in the coming months.
