Local Edition, a New Bar From the Bourbon & Branch/Rickhouse Team, Coming to Downtown
This morning over the wires Grub Street discovers Edition, a new bar project from the Future Bars/Destination Bars team of Brian Sheehy, Doug Dalton, and Steve McKinley, which is going into a basement space in the Hearst Building at 691 Market Street (at Third), which is also home to their liquor store Cask. As Sheehy tells Grub Street, "It's going to be along the lines of our other bars, Rickhouse and Bourbon & Branch, focused on the spirits and the cocktails. But we're still probably a year or more away from opening. We're in no rush."
The underground space, beneath the T-Mobile store on the Market Street side of the building, was home to a place called The Manhattan Lounge until about ten years ago.
Sheehy guesses that the backlog at the ABC is going to hold up this license transfer a long while, and they're now guessing it will be late 2012 before Edition opens.
The team that's also behind Swig and Anu has most recently has been at work on Mr. Lew's Win-Win Bar and Grand Sazerac Emporium, in the former Club 441 space on Jones Street, which is undergoing a renovation and may still be getting a new name at some point. Mr. Lew's and Edition are both under the auspices of a new corporate entity: Destination Bars.
Update: The name has actually changed to Local Edition.
