Winsome Union Square Hof Brau Lefty O’Doul’s Plays Roll In Capture of Art Thief

You may have heard by now about the Picasso sketch, worth some $200,000, that a thief brazenly lifted off a gallery wall near Union Square on Tuesday morning and walked off into a waiting cab. Well it turns out that Lefty O'Doul's, which installed a security camera after someone walked off with the arm of their Lefty mannequin a couple of years back (and then mysteriously returned it by mail exactly a year ago), caught an image of the thief with the framed sketch under his arm which led directly to his arrest. As the Appeal reports, the SFPD has a suspect in custody, and they're pretty sure it's the guy. Lefty's owner Nick Bovis, who clearly has a talent for getting his business free publicity, says, "I put up the camera to catch an arm thief and got someone stealing a Picasso." Update: It turns out the suspected thief, who's been identified as Mark Lugo, was a former sommelier at BLT Fish in New York, and spent a year working at Per Se. [Chron]
