Guerneville Updates: Big Bottom Market Opening This Week; Triple R Remains Closed

A little news from up on the Russian River, where the 4th of July is traditionally when things get into full-swing in tourist-friendly (especially gay-tourist-friendly) Guerneville: the Scoop brings word of the opening of the hilariously named Big Bottom Market, from the team of Michael Volpatt, Kate Larkin, and Crista Luedke. Volpatt and Larkin run NY PR firm Larkin/Volpatt Communications, and they’re hoping that their high-end deli/gourmet grocery is a hit with tourists and locals alike. Luedke is the chef-owner at Boon Eat + Drink, which remains one of the only decent places to eat in town along with the newly revamped Dawn Ranch Lodge (formerly Fife’s).

Also, Grub Street learns that the Russian River Resort, a.k.a. the Triple R is back on the market after an earlier deal to sell the place to an S.F. nightlife entrepreneur fell through during escrow — the property is said to have extensive mold damage. With so few poolside bars around town, tourists are definitely feeling the loss this summer, while other gay-friendly establishments like the Rainbow Cattle Company bar and the BYOB pool-resort The Woods, are picking up the slack and packing ‘em in.
