Yesterday marked the opening of Bamboo Asia (41 Montgomery Street, at Sutter), which kind of like Sushirrito is attempting to do a mashup of cuisines and at the same time appeal to the sophisticated tastes and impatient natures of the downtown lunchtime crowd. The menu is three-fold, offering up Vietnamese, Indian, and Japanese items in a create-your-own format, with salad, wrap/sandwich, and bowl options — as well as a sushi option for Japan. So you can have a BBQ chicken banh mi with peanut sauce (a sacrilege, we know), or an okra and cauliflower salad with tandoori chicken, or a hamachi rice bowl with shaved radishes, seaweed salad, and chili sauce. The options are endless, really.

They’ll be open weekdays from 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., so there’s the takeout dinner option as well. And there’s a promise of happy hour cocktails (think soju).

Alas, if you want your hamachi wrapped in a burrito, you still need to head over Sushirrito.
