This morning Grub Street discovers another restaurant project blooming where no restaurant was prior, and that’s AQ Restaurant, which is in the process of building out a former retail space (and condo sales office) on the ground floor of a historic brick building at 1085 Mission Street. The man behind the restaurant is 28-year-old Matt Semmelhack, a Princeton grad, real estate investor, and first-time restaurateur. The concept, thus far, is “seasonal” — the name AQ being a reference to the pricing abbreviation for “as quoted” seen on menus, usually next to seafood or anything with a market price that changes throughout the year. And there will be a lounge component, with just beer and wine.
